Workshops

Slow down. Work with your hands. Make something of your own.

Join me, Rachel Shaw of Waiting for Spring, for relaxed, beginner-friendly wood carving workshops on the NSW South Coast and in Sydney.

You don’t need any experience or your own tools. I’ll guide you through the process step by step, from learning to use the tools safely and understanding the timber, through to shaping and finishing your own hand-carved piece.

All tools and timber are provided. Just come ready to carve.

NEW TO WOOD CARVING?

Most people who come to my workshops have never carved before. My classes are designed to give you plenty of time to learn how to use the tools safely, understand the timber and work through your project at your own pace.

You don’t need a workshop at home or any woodworking experience. Everything you need for the class is provided, and I’ll guide you through each stage of making your piece by hand.

There’s no need for everything to be perfectly smooth or identical either. Tool marks, wonky edges and little imperfections are all part of making something by hand.

KEEP CARVING AT HOME

Already been to a workshop, or can't make it to one of the upcoming dates? My beginner carving kits, timber blanks and selected carving tools are available online so you can keep making at home.

Each piece is one of a kind, shaped slowly from reclaimed timber.
